Historic Neighbourhood Walks - Bangkok 2020

Let's join to do walks in the Historic Neighbourhoods of Bangkok! Your part is to join a small sub-team, to plan a 3-4 hour walking tour for the others. Each tour includes a rest stop and place for quick lunch (optional) afterwards. This activity is planned to meet once a week for 6 consecutives Tuesdays and you are required to attend all of them. Since we have almost covered all Barrett's "22 Walks in Bangkok" book... we are proposing new and exciting routes thanks to the extended public transport lines!

Yes! we know you can do it on you own... but how much more fun is it to share and explore together?!! In the orientation day we will create teams and decide areas to be visited which can be chosen from the ones we will be proposing or any one you might have in mind.

@Homes: A tour of Bangkok 1899 and Na Cafe

Please come join us for our first ever visit to Bangkok 1899! From their homepage: “Creative Migration established Bangkok 1899 as a new cultural and civic hub representing an intersection of art, design, urbanism and social innovation. Our historic location, Ban Chao Phraya Thammasakmontri, originally built in 1899, was designed by Italian architect Mario Tamagno. His most famous work includes Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall, Neilson Hays Library and Bangkok Railway Station (Hua Lamphong). For the very first time, this landmark is open to the public.”

Royal Barge Procession in Bangkok

The Royal Barge Procession, the final event of the Coronation of King Rama X, will be held on Thursday 12th December 2019. The procession will begin at the Wasukri pier at 4:00 p.m., when His Majesty the King will travel along the Chao Phraya River to Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) on the occasion of presenting robes to Buddhist monks (Royal Kathin Ceremony). About 2,200 oarsmen will row 52 barges arranged into five groupings, from the Wasukri pier to Wat Arun, with a total length of four kilometers. Rhythmic barge-rowing songs are part of this ceremonial water-borne procession, which is a rare spectacle, arranged on special occasions only. (Richard Barrow)
